Mr Frank West passed away at Points West on Sunday, December 8th with his stepdaughters by his side.
Frank was born December 12, 1931 to Roy and Agnes West of Big Valley. Frank grew up on the family farm east of Big Valley with his three sisters: Hilda, Marguerite & Fay. He attended Gopher Head School to eighth grade then decided to quit and help out on the farm. He did a great deal of trucking, hauling coal & grain in the Drumheller, Morrin & Munson areas. During this time, he met Elsie Jensen of Morrin, fell in love and they were married on the farm November 30, 1955.
Frank was born a farmer and loved equipment and maintaining every piece he owned. He continued to farm with Elsie in Big Valley area until April 1994 when he decided to downsize. They had a farm sale and relocated to a small farm north of Stettler on Highway #601. Shortly after they moved Elsie became ill. She passed away one year to the day of his farm sale.
In 1998 Frank met his new love Vivian Halseth and with her his family grew. He enjoyed many visits and card games with his stepsons, Bob and Kevin and stepdaughters, Brenda, Becky & Kelly and all their spouses and children. Frank and Vivian continued to farm until 2011, 61 years of farming when he retired.
Frank lost Vivian to cancer in May 2016 and with his own health failing, he sold the farm in August 2016. Frank moved to Willow Creek then to Points West where he remained until his passing.
Frank is survived by his loving family: sister Fay Brunner of Medicine Hat; dear friends Darren (Debbie) Sutton of Stettler; stepchildren: Brenda (Gordon) Klatt of Botha, Becky (Lionel) Clement of Donalda, Bob (Joanne) Halseth of Donalda, Kevin (Kim) Halseth of Donalda and Kelly Halseth (Steve Tyson) of Innisfail; Darren and Debbie's sons Jeff (Danica) Sutton of Stettler and Carson (Whitney) Sutton of Stettler; eleven step grandchildren and their families; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and many dear friends. Frank was predeceased by his wife Elsie; partner Vivian; parents Roy & Agnes; sisters Hilda & Marguerite; brothers- in-law: Alec Hunter, Victor Jackson, Walter Jensen & Alf Brunner.
A Celebration of Life was held on December 12, 2019 at the Stettler Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Schulze officiating. Donations in memory of Frank are gratefully accepted to S.T.A.R.S., Alberta Cancer Research or the SPCA c/o Stettler Funeral Home & Crematorium P.O.
