Flora Mae
Longtime Nevis-Stettler area resident passed away peacefully at the Pine Ridge Nursing Home in Stettler, Alberta on November 19, 2009 at the age of 91. Flora was born in Lousana, Alberta on September 3, 1918 to Edith and Alec Wells. They later moved to the Nevis area where she met and married Jim Marshall, where they farmed for many years. Flora also lived in Stettler and Lacombe over the years before residing at the Heart Haven Lodge until this year when she entered Pine Ridge. Flora is survived by three daughters: Iris Wilson of Courtenay, BC, Betty DeBendetti and Plina Arnestad, both of Calgary; three sons: Stuart (Judy) of Nevis, Lynn (Lynda) of Alix and Earl (Dorathy) of Nevis; twelve grandchildren: Ted (Connie) Gowler, Nancy (Martin) Pflug, Kathy Ward, Cody (Jodi) Marshall, Clint (Sherry) Marshall, Crystal (Sam) Lynch, Ed (Kerri) Marshall, Bev (Norm) Salmon, Vicky (John) Leask, Tracy (Stacey) Peters, James (Crystal) Marshall and Troy (Kristi) Arnestad; seventeen great grandchildren; brother Gordon (Nellie) Wells of Lacombe; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Flora was predeceased by her husband Jim Marshall, parents and three sisters. A memorial service for the late Flora Mae Marshall was held on Monday, November 23, 2009, at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home, Stettler Alberta, with Reverend Jack Schulze officiating. The eulogy was given by granddaughter Kathy Ward and son Earl Marshall. Congregational hymns were "Nearer My God To Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by pianist Elaine Hennel. Following the service a time of sharing and a luncheon served by the Nevis Community Club took place in the Heartland Fellowship Hall.
