It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mom, Fern Rodger, age 97 of Courtenay, BC.

Fern was predeceased by her husband, Ralph James Rodger.

Fern will be greatly missed by her children, Lynne Taylor (David), Wendy Dooley (Kent), Karen Rodger, Shawn-Marie Rodger (Darren) and Kirk Rodger (Selena), five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Fern grew up in Alberta, where she became a teacher and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. During the war she was stationed at Pat Bay on Vancouver Island. Here she met and married Ralph. After WWII they moved to 150 Mile House, BC where Fern became Post Master for Canada Post. During this time Fern was a co-founder and became president of the Williams Lake Music Festival.

Fern loved to bowl, curl, square dance, pick wild berries, hunt, fish, do jigsaw puzzles and bake her famous apple dumplings.

In 1980 they moved to Campbell River, BC and then to Comox-Courtenay, BC. Fern and Ralph joined the 'Citizens On Patrol'. Their community service was acclaimed in 1999 in a Comox Valley Record article. Fern was active in the Evergreen Seniors' Centre. She helped write a cookbook and loved to play Whist. In 2012 the Canadian Legion awarded Fern her 50 year membership pin.

Fern has requested a family gathering in Botha, AB where her ashes will be laid to rest beside her husband and parents.
