With great sadness, we announce the passing of Ethel Doreen McCabe (Campbell) on November 10, 2018 at the Stettler Hospital and Care Center in her 88th year.

Doreen was born at Byemoor, Alberta the youngest of seven children. After her schooling in Byemoor and Stettler, she took a job with the Forestry Service in Rocky Mountain House where she met Reginald McCabe. They were married in 1953 and welcomed four children. After Reg's sudden passing in1966, she moved to Stettler where she raised her family and worked at John Wilfort Construction for many years. Doreen moved to Paragon Place in 2015 where she lived happily next door to her sister Isabel for her last years.

Doreen's life was defined by her work ethic and her devotion to her family. She was a strong woman who faced all the challenges in her life without complaint. She had many talents and was humble about them all. A renowned cook in a family of renowned cooks.

Doreen was known for her sense of humor. Everything she did was with the benefit of her children or family in mind and her greatest pleasure came from their calls or visits.

Doreen is survived by her children Rick (Nancy) McCabe of Grande Prairie, Greg (Denise) McCabe of St. Albert, Karen (Randy) Kneeland of Airdrie; daughter-in-law Janette McCabe of Red Deer; grandchildren Erin McCabe (Trevor Smith), Kaitlin (Jeff) Brent and their daughter Addie, Keely (Nick) Bullen, Shaun McCabe, Sara McCabe, Cody (Caroline) Kneeland and their daughter Lily, Kelsie McCabe, Reginald (Joy) McCabe; sister Isabel Nixon, sister-in-law Marie Campbell; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many good friends.

Doreen is predeceased by her parents: Albert and Mary Campbell; husband Reginald McCabe; son Brent McCabe; brothers Douglas Campbell, Leslie (Shirley) Campbell, Albert Campbell and John (Bernice) Campbell; sister Peg (Arlie) Hanning and brother-in-law Glenn Nixon and close friend Bert Chidley.

A celebration of Doreen's life was held Nov. 15, 2018 in the CE Wing of the Stettler United Church. Interment will follow at a later date in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta beside her beloved husband Reginald.

The family would like to thank the staff at Paragon Place for the loving care shown to her while she was a resident there. A special thank you to Dr. Chapman and to the staff at the Stettler Hospital for their attention and help - they did all they could to ease her burden in the final days.
