Ernest Theodore
Ernest Theodore Cragg (commonly known as "Ted") passed away quietly in his sleep on January 18, 2010 at the young age of 97 years. He was born at Edwell, AB on August 12, 1912. Ted was the raised in a family of 6 brothers and 1 sister. When he was about 10 years old the family moved to the Bashaw area and he grew up on the farm. The Cragg's were a musical family and they even had a band at one time. In 1942 Dad enlisted in the Armed Services and serviced his country until the end of the war. When he came back to Alberta he brought with him a young daughter. In 1948 Ted married a young widow Dalphy with four children of her own. Three more soon arrived and they raised their 8 children on a small farm just northeast of Bashaw and once the kids left, they sold the farm and moved into town. They were happily married for 55 years. Ted is lovingly remembered by his children: Gerry Coen (Joyce), Leroy Coen (Kathy), Irene Johansen (Robert), Wanda Schneider (Dennis), Brian Coen (Connie), Mavis Sand (Bob), Sandra Pearson (Ted) and daughter-in-law Diana Cragg., one brother Lloyd, 19 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Dalphy, son Duane Cragg and grandson Lyle Coen. In addition to farming for most of his life, his also worked for a number of years as a weed inspector and also delivered mail to the rural community. He was active in his community being a member of the local Legion, Moose and Masonic Lodges. Ted is remembered by his family as a kind-hearted sensitive man who loved his family and his community. He was quiet and gentle and loved to joke around. His actions often spoke louder than his words. This is how he will be remembered. A Funeral Service was held at the Bashaw Agriculture Centre at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2010. The Interment will take place at the Meeting Creek Cemetery.
