TAYLOR - Ella May

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ella May Taylor on July 31, 2009 at the age of 66 years. Ella May Taylor was born Ella May McColeman in the Castor Hospital on June 9, 1943. She was the eldest of three daughters born to Charlie and Margaret McColeman. The McColeman's had a small farm just out of the village of Halkirk and in addition to Charlie working at the mine, he was a great gardener, and he and the family raised vegetables to be sold at the Red and White Store and to other customers in Halkirk. The McColeman girls lived just close enough to Halkirk to be ineligible to ride the school bus so they walked to and from the school each day; morning, noon and after school. They also attended Sunday School at the United Church in Halkirk. Ella May took all of her schooling in Halkirk. In 1965 she married Blake Taylor and two children were born to that marriage; Margaret Ann in 1961 and Charlie in 1966. In April of 1995, her mother, Margaret passed away and just about two months later, her daughter, Margaret Ann (or Anne) also passed away at 31 years of age. Blake and Ella May continued to live in Halkirk until Blake passed away in May of 2000. Ella May continued to live in the trailer until approximately one year ago when she moved into the same home as her sisters, Rose and Elsie McColeman. About five years ago Ella May was diagnosed with diabetes and later started having problems with shortness of breath and fluid retention. She required oxygen full time in their home.

About two and a half months ago Rose was hospitalized because of medical problems and was able to be at home for only three days before Ella May passed away quietly in her sleep on the morning of July 31, 2009. She was 66 years old. Rose remembers Ella May as enjoying playing Bingo, cards, listening to the radio and going for walks with Rose. She is survived by her son, Charles, his wife Nicole and their daughter, Michelle of Red Deer, whom Ella May adored; her sisters, Rose and Elsie McColeman of Halkirk; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services for the late Ella May Taylor were held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 in the Halkirk Community Church, Halkirk AB. with Pastor Jim Culham officiating. The interment followed in the Halkirk Cemetery, Halkirk, AB. followed by a time of fellowship in the Halkirk Community Hall.
