It is with great sadness that the families of Irene Petrussa announce her passing on May 13, 2011 at the age of 74 years, in Stettler, Alberta. Irene was born in Drumheller, Alberta the only child of John and Rosie Lenkiewich. She spent her school years in Drumheller and then moved to Calgary to attend Business School. While there, she met Elsie Petrussa who introduced Irene to her brother John. After a number of years working in Calgary, Irene eventually married John, on June 17, 1967 and moved with him to his farm in Big Valley, Alberta. Irene enjoyed being a homemaker on the farm. She took pleasure in reading and doing various handicrafts but she especially loved visiting with family and friends. Irene and John enjoyed thirty eight years of marriage before John‘s passing in 2004. Irene eventually left her beloved home in Big Valley and moved into Willow Creek Lodge in Stettler. Irene is survived by her cousin Olga Wenstob and her family; brother and sisters-in-law: Ernie Petrussa, Anne Jones, Lucy Steffler, Adeline Laisnez, Elsie Fodor and their respective families and many good friends. Prayers took place at Christ The King Catholic Church in Stettler on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. led by Rita Mielke and the funeral Mass on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ The King Catholic Church with Father Arlan Parenteau officiating. Irene was laid to rest beside her beloved "Johnnie". The families wish to thank Irene’s many friends, the kind staff at Willow Creek Lodge and Ida Patterson, for visiting, calling and supporting Irene. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Big Valley Fire Department, S.T.A.R.S., or a charity of your choice c/o Stettler Funeral Home & Crematorium, Box 1780, Stettler, Alberta T0C 2L0, who were entrusted with the care and arrangements.
