Mrs. Edith Lorraine Van Den Hengel beloved wife of Mr. Peter Van Den Hengel, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2009 at the age of 72 years. Born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Edith was raised and received her education in the Lloydminster area. Edith moved to Red Deer in 1961 and to Castor, Alberta in 1963 where she resided until coming to Lethbridge in 1974. Edith had been employed with Erickson's Fine Foods for quite some time, starting in 1974 as a sales clerk. She has continued to reside in Lethbridge until her passing. Edith was an avid member of the McKillop United Church. Edith was predeceased by her father Gordon Mason on May 1, 1988 and her mother Mrs. Dorothy Mason on June 11, 2002; as well as son in-law Doug Oakes, March 22, 2007 and an infant son, Norris in 1963. Besides her loving husband Peter, Edith is survived by her daughter Lorraine Oakes; sons Douglas Stoddart, Glen (Keely) Stoddart; brothers Harold Mason, Neil (Wanda) Mason; half brother Dennis (Doris); 6 grandchildren Nicole and Chelsea, Meagan and Wesley, Darren and Mark (Krystal); 2 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and new adopted family. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Monday, December 28, 2009, at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4th Street, S., Lethbridge, Alberta. For those who wish memorial donations may be made to the United Way of Lethbridge and District, 1277 - 3rd Avenue, South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 0K3 or to the Organ Donation and Transplant Association of Canada, 444 Ontario Street, Stratford, Ontario, N5A 3J2.
