Mr. E. Douglas Shupe of Stettler, passed away at Red Deer on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 just days before his 82nd birthday. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughters Lynn (Wayne) Derwantz, Kathie (Cameron) Walt, Iva Lee (Dwight) Quance and Sandra (Ken) Knox. Stepchildren: Greg (Judy) Stewart, Kevin (Susan) Stewart and Karen (Glen) Vinet. Grandchildren; Rick (Melanie) Derwantz, Stephanie (Nicholas) Giannoulis, Krista Walt and fiancé Patrick McGrath, Cory Walt, Stacey (Brian) Roberts, Kandess Quance, Travis Quance and fiancé Alisha Coleman, Trey Quance and fiancé Christine Guba, Madison Knox, Stepgrandchildren; Neil (Raylene) Stewart, Blaine Stewart, Kristen (Lou) Handley, Jamy and Jordan Stewart, Kaitlin and Courtney Vinet. Great-grandchildren: Keaton Giannoulis, Lincoln McGrath, Hailee and Austin Roberts, Charity and Ryker Quance, Taylor and Jayden Stewart. One brother Jack (Lila) Shupe and sisters-in-law Beth Shupe and Rae Shupe, as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many wonderful friends. Doug was pre-deceased by his father, Waldo Menno Shupe, his mother, Iva Althea Shupe nee York, his wife Lois Fern Shupe nee Benson, and two brothers Waldo Gaylen and Ronald Blaine. Doug was born May 21, 1928 in Ceylon, Saskatchewan and spent his early years in Weyburn, SK where he attended school. After completing school he worked for International Harvester as a blockman and partsman. He married his high school sweetheart Lois Benson in 1949 & they lived in several locations before settling in Stettler. He continued working for IH until purchasing Snow Glo Drapery, later named Shupe's Drapery & Boutique, in the fall of 1974. Doug and Lois sold the Drapery business and retired to spend winters in Apache Junction, Arizona golfing, playing cards & spending time with their many friends. In 1999 Doug married Dorothy Stewart & they resided in Stettler & Arizona until his passing. Doug had many interests in his long life - his favourites being baseball, hockey, golf, football, and especially farming. He belonged to many organizations in which he was a very active member. These included the Masons, the Shriners, the Lions Club, and the Good Sam's Club. Funeral services for the late Doug Shupe were held at the Stettler United Church - 4820 51 Street, Stettler, Alberta on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev Debbie Stockdale officiating. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to S.T.A.R.S Air Ambulance, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice in care of Brennen Funeral Home and Cremation Services P.O.
