FULLER, Douglas Raymond

Douglas Raymond Fuller was born to Lewis and Lillie Fuller (nee Kane) on August 22, 1921 in Castor, Alberta. He passed away on October 16, 2009 at the Extendicare at Castor, Alberta. All of Doug's schooling was at a one room school near his home called Tinchebray. Doug was better known for his pranks played on his fellow students and teachers than for his academic skills.

On August 14, 1948 Doug married his soul mate, Alice Yarham at South Calgary United Church, Calgary, Alberta. They were blessed with one daughter and four sons: Trudy, Gary, Dennis, Colin and Tim. Doug and Alice took over the family homestead in the Tinchebray area and in 2009 the farm received the Alberta Century Farm and Ranch Award. Farming was Doug's life. He loved all aspects of machinery and kept up to date by reading every brochure that his wife sent for. He also did custom tilling for many years, in his younger days.Doug also loved hunting with his sons and grandsons. He was such a crack shot that he won many turkeys on Santa Days in Alliance.

Doug was predeceased by his brothers, Merton and Harry Fuller; sisters, Betty Peacock and Doris Fissel; brothers-in-law, Herman Fissel, Art Peacock, Jack Bateman; sisters-in-law, Grace Fuller and Cleda Fuller; nephew, Arthur Fuller and niece, Joyce McFarland. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Alice of 61 years; daughter, Trudy Downey (Brian), their daughter, Allison Downey-Damato (Marc) and children; Ayslan, Kestrel and Matteo, their son, Dustin Downey (Jovie) and children; Chiaki and Duke; son, Gary (Audrey), their son, Stacy (Trisha) and children; Abby, Nola and Daphne, and their daughter, Janine Erion (Keith) and children; (twins) Hallie, Carlie and Trey; son, Dennis (Laurie), their children; Dana Brettele (Dave) and their son, Will, Tara Tanton (Craig) and their daughters; Emily, Shelby and Cabrie, Adam (Rhonda) and their son, Ryder, Chelsea Davis (Clint) and their daughter, Erika; son, Colin (Phyllis) and their daughter, Tanya Miller (Spencer) and children; Cody and Makayla and son, Mark; son, Tim (Mandy) and their children; Matthew, Elizabeth, (twins) Jonathan and Rebecca; brother Gordon Fuller; two sisters, Margaret Bateman and Carol McDermott; brothers-in-law, Cliff McDermott, Bill Yarham, James Yarham; sisters-in-law, Bea Fuller, Joyce Yarham and Phyllis Yarham. Funeral services were held at the Alliance Community Hall on Saturday, October 25, 2009 with Rev. Jope Langejans officiating. Mrs. Betty Spady played the piano for the congregational hymns and as Jope sang. Granddaughter Allison Downey-Damato gave the life history and Laurie Fuller gave the eulogy. Interment was at Alliance Cemetery with Grandsons: Dustin Downey, Stacy Fuller, Adam Fuller, Mark Fuller, Matthew Fuller and Jonathan Fuller as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were "All of Doug's friends and family." Family and friends gathered at the Community Hall for a time of sharing and lunch. Memorial donations may be made to the Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital Foundation - Extendicare Unit. Parkview Funeral Chapels and Crematorium entrusted with the care and arrangements.
