Donna Mae STEVENS

STEVENS – Donna Mae (Barclay) was born in Stettler, AB, May 14, 1939 and passed away suddenly in Red Deer, AB on Jan. 1, 2009 at the age of 69 years, after a brief battle with cancer. Donna started her schooling in Silver Prairie and in 1949 the family moved to the Union Hall District. In 1955 she attended high school in Erskine, AB and continued her education later by taking a secretarial course. Her first job was at McAllister Motors and from there she worked on and off at the Stettler Medical Centre for 25 years making many great friends. On Dec. 23, 1953 Donna started dating Bob Stevens and on June 4, 1960 Bob and Donna married in the United Church in Stettler. The couple resided at the farm southwest of Erskine where she lived until her passing. Bob and Donna started their family with Michael Robert born Oct. 13, 1961, continued with Darcy Wayne born May 31, 1964 and completed their family on July 22, 1966 with the birth of Blaine Allen. While raising her family Donna and her sister-in-law Dianna Barclay opened a fabric shop in Stettler in 1972 and continued that business until 1976. After closing the business Donna and Bob took their first of many big vacations to Hawaii. Donna also loved country music and attended the Big Valley Jamboree for 13 years in a row. Over the years she enjoyed many camping trips with friends. For the past nine years Donna and Bob enjoyed their winters in Arizona. Donna’s favourite activities included sewing, cake decorating, crafts, travelling, shopping, bean bags, horseshoes, snowmobiling, managing the family and farm affairs and actively participating in the Union Hall Good Times Club as well as several other clubs and committees, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren and close friends. Donna was predeceased by her father and mother Harry and Evelyn Barclay; brothers Arnold and John; father and mother-in-law Claire and Mary Stevens. Donna will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years Robert; sons Mike (Dixie), Darcy (Susan), Blaine (Tanya); grandchildren Justin, Lance, Kristin and Tyler; brothers and sister: Gerald (Mary) Barclay, Dale (Carole) Barclay, David (Dianna) Barclay, Linda (Dan) Chapman; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral service was held at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home on Jan. 9, 2009 with Rev. Garth Bogart, friend of the family, officiating. Organist Evelyn Strandquist played for the congregational hymns. Tributes were given by Carole Barclay, Susan Stevens and Myrna Harrison. Interment took place at the Erskine Cemetery. Family and friends gathered at the I.O.O.F. Hall in Erskine for a time of fellowship and luncheon prepared by the Union Hall Ladies.
