KROMM - Donald Gordon Kromm passed away peacefully on July 24, 2008 at the age of 73 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Through everything he endured he still found time for family and friends and never lost his sense of humour. Don was born in Stettler, AB on June 6, 1935 to Conrad and Eva Kromm, the youngest of five children and grew up on the farm east of Red Willow, AB. Don loved riding horses and at the age of eight he taught his horse “Polly” to rear up and pose for pictures. He attended school at Red Willow. Then it was time to get out and start working at various jobs until he found his true passion in the propane business as an Operator and Owner. Don married Ruth Muhlbach on Aug. 22, 1958 and together they raised three children, Pat, Sheryl and Steve. After living in Stettler for a few years they moved to their farm south of Stettler in 1972 where Don continued in the propane business and also enjoyed farming and raising cattle. After retirement Don took on various part time jobs that included driving truck for Bev Mailer and Charlie McDonald. Don and Ruth enjoyed trips to Disneyland, Europe, the Maritimes and a bus tour to the U.S West Coast. Many weekends were spent camping at various ball tournaments. Favourite pastimes included playing cards with family and friends, a good game of beanbags, attending hockey games and watching sports on TV. Snowmobile trips he made weren’t complete unless they included a wiener roast. Don also spent many Saturday nights playing his accordion with Harold Simon’s Band for dances around the community.
