Dirk Bouma was born on June 10th, 1934 in Dronryp, Holland. He ended his journey peacefully on January 17th, 2010 in Edmonton at the age of 75 years. He will be loved and remembered forever by his four children Bernard

(Deanna) Bouma of Calgary, Peter (Monica) Bouma of Edmonton, Rosemary (Paul) Fetaz of Rocky Mountain House, and David (Joey) Bouma of Edmonton, and his by his ten treasured grandchildren, Tyler, (Sharon), Vanessa, Chelsea, Dallas, Daniel, Rebecca, Daryl, Jennifer, Halle and Cassi. Dirk was predeceased by his wife Lauretta (LeClair) in 1977 and his daughter Maureen in 1996. Dirk was a kind and gentle man who came from humble beginnings. He was a hard working butcher and cattle buyer for his entire life. Dirk was an honest and faith-filled man. He was, until his last days, spirited and playful, and he loved to make others laugh either by his actions, or through a story or a joke. In many ways he was a man of simple needs, but in so many other ways he was a man with complex dreams and aspirations. His dreams for success and happiness however were seldom, if ever for himself, but rather his dreams always centered on those for whom he loved and cared for the most- that being his children and grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank all of Dirk’s many friends and family for their support at this difficult time, and for helping us to celebrate the gift of his life and his resurrection into heaven where he joins his beloved mother Janke and father Bernardus, his loving wife Lauretta, and his cherished daughter Maureen. The funeral service will be held at St. Michael-Resurrection Catholic Church, 10555 – 50A Street, Edmonton on Thursday, January 21st, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Leo Floyd officiating. There will be a fellowship following the mass in the Church Hall. Interment will take place after the fellowship at the Tofield Cemetery at approximately 3:00 p.m. with refreshments to follow at the Tofield Legion. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to Alberta Cancer Foundation on behalf of Dirk.
