David Joseph

David passed away at Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital, Castor, Alberta, January 16, 2010, at 68 after several years of illnesses. David was born in Kerrobert, Sask. July 22, 1941 to Isabel and Henry Zimmer. He was predeceased by his father Harry (Henry), his brothers Ken and Carl, his wife Lorraine and his son Edward.

Surviving him is his wife Rose, his mother Isabel, daughter Mary and grandchildren Sarah, Meagan and Dylan, his brothers Harold (Eleanor), Larry (Anne), Fred (Trudy), Terry (Dolly), and Brian (Debi), and his sisters Fran (Gerry), Margaret (Fred), Bernadette (Roger), Virginia (Blair) and Brenda, plus many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. In his working years, Dave worked at road and well site construction in Alberta, Yukon and the NWT; he sold groceries from Red Deer to Consort for Dominion Fruit, plus farm equipment throughout central Alberta. As well, he drove trucks delivering gasoline from Edmonton throughout Alberta, finally owning his own truck. He also hauled cattle for many years. In all these occupations, Dave made many friends and kept in contact with many of them over the years. Dave has been spending his winters in Arizona for 21 years, enjoying the many friendships made there and the jam sessions, pool playing and hot tubbing in the parks he lived in. Music was his biggest interest and he has played an accordion since he was 12 years old, starting with a small accordion and working up to a full-sized electronic instrument. He has played for the Red Deer radio station, jam sessions across Alberta, in Arizona, as well as at senior's residences locally. As well as the accordion, he also played a violin, banjo, and guitar. Prayer service was held Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 with Father Glenn Zimmer officiating. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, January 21, 2010. Musicians Veronica Weber, Brenda Kneller and Rosa Weber played and sang for both Prayers and Mass services. Pallbearers were Leonard Zimmer, Ken Johnson, Kevin Zimmer, Robert Zimmer, Marc Carbonneau and Jeremie Felzien as David was laid to rest at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery, Castor, Alberta. Family and friends gathered at the Castor Community Hall for a time of sharing and refreshments supplied and served by the C.W.L.
