In loving memory ~
Charles William Usher (Charlie) passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, September 15, 2023, after having managed with grace and determination the ever-greater challenges brought on by a spreading cancer.
Born in Drumheller, Alberta, on June 24, 1927, he attended school in Scollard, Big Valley, and Calgary before returning to help his dad with the farm at age seventeen. He farmed together with his dad and brother for nine years, with just his dad for another three years, and then by himself with his mom for another twelve years, at which time they sold the farm and moved to Stettler in 1969. He then worked in the oilfield as a battery operator for eighteen years full-time and five years part-time.
After retirement, he was an active volunteer with many different organizations and activities in the town - auto club, museum, railroad, handi-bus, hospital, church, and Meals on Wheels. In his last year of life, at the age of ninety-six, he once again helped with the pancake breakfast flipping pancakes for the thirty-sixth consecutive year.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of forty-seven years, Jeanne, and survived by their four sons and their wives - Doug (Helen), Len (Brenda), Bruce (Sherri), and Garry (Merelyn) Webber, and by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great, great-grandchildren.
Additionally, he was pre-deceased by his brother Howard (Pat) and their daughter Anne Evans and survived by his sister Trudy Usher, sister-in-law Pat Usher, and nephews Doug Usher (Maureen Junk), Ken Usher (Carol), and Alun Evans.
In all that he did, he was recognized as a real gentleman, generous, kind, cheerful, helpful and loyal. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
