CREASEY

Celia Creasey, long time resident of Halkirk, more recently of Stettler, passed away on August 15, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Celia, or Sis as she was often known, was born on July 31, 1918 into the Duncan family south of Halkirk where she lived and attended Leader School. She married Art Creasey on October 9, 1941 and they ran the family farm near Halkirk. In 1980 they moved into Halkirk and in 2000 they moved to Willow Creek Lodge in Stettler. Celia enjoyed living close to her family as the Duncan's celebrated many holidays and special occasions together. The six sisters especially like to get together to celebrate their birthdays. During the early years Art operated a dairy farm and Sis was kept busy washing bottles and the separator daily. In the years when Art was farming, Sis delivered many meals to the field. While raising their four children, she was involved in the United Church Sunday School, Home and School Association and 4-H Clubs. Celia was an active member of the Royal Purple, the Sunny Circle Club and the Senior Centre. She spent many hours playing cards and floor curling with friends. She especially enjoyed the visits from her 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and each of them received an afghan which she had lovingly crocheted. Celia was predeceased by her husband Art in 2007. Celia is survived by her four children: Jim of Red Deer, Linda (David) Chick of Halkirk, Dick (Ann) of Halkirk and Cathy (Greg) Gabert of Drayton Valley; 11 grandchildren: Susan (Doug) Ginther of Lethbridge, Lee-Ann (Barry) Kaiser of Hussar, Michael (Jennifer) Creasey of Red Deer, Tanya (Troy) Slemp of Castor, Chireen (Rory) Shipton of Edmonton, Mandy (Dale) Gonda of Halkirk, Kurt Chick (Erin Kuefler) of Halkirk, Amber Creasey of Red Deer and Cindy Creasey of Calgary, Brady Gabert of Calgary and Robyn Gabert of Drayton Valley; 13 great grandchildren; sisters: Doris Fowler of Stettler, Fern (Louie) Engel of Castor, Jean Plouvier of Castor; brothers Jimmy of Stettler and Harry (Hazel) of Calgary; sisters in law Irene Duncan of Stettler, Heather Harvie of Sherwood Park and Dilly (Gerald) Jackson of Camrose; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Barbara Zimmerman officiating. Doug McKay played for the congregational hymns and for soloist Shirley McKay as she san "Mansion Over The Hilltop." Greg Gabert gave the eulogy. Interment took place at Halkirk Cemetery with a private family service earlier in the day. Pallbearers were Michael Creasey, Kurt Chick, Brady Gabert, Dan Fowler, Don Engel and Rocky Dahmer.
