Bernard was born to George and Millie Garland in 1935, growing up on a farm northeast of Gadsby, Alberta. He met and married the love of his life Lois Dimma and they were wed on April 3, 1959. He farmed beside his father until he purchased the farm in 1978 where he farmed alongside his wife. They sold the farm and moved to Stettler in 1998. Bernard loved a practical joke and enjoyed teasing his grandchildren. Throughout his life he enjoyed square dancing, softball, slowpitch, curling, bowling, 4-H as both a member and a leader, hunting and getting together with his family and friends to play cards and have a great time.
Predeceased by his parents George and Millie Garland; great granddaughter Presley Sutton; brothers in law George Dimma, Bobby Dimma and sister in law Joyce Dimma: Bernard leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Lois, his daughters Dawn (Berny) Benoit, Debora (Darren) Sutton, his son Daryl Garland; six grandchildren Curtis (Molly) Benoit, Morgan (Holly) Benoit, Andrea (Shawn) Benoit, Aaron (Holly) Benoit, Jeffrey (Danica) Sutton, Carson (Whitney) Sutton, his sister Dorothy (Rocky) Biggelaar; sisters in law Ann (Al) Foord, Wendy (Robert) Marcinkoski, brothers in law Donald (Peggy) Dimma, Brian (Maureen) Dimma; 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 19, 2021 in Omega Cemetery, Gadsby, Alberta with Rev. Robin King officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bernard's memory to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, STARS or a charity of the donor's choice.
