MOHN

Beatrice (Pudge) Jessie

It is with great sadness that we announce that Beatrice (Pudge) Jessie Mohn passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at the age of 87. Pudge, as she was known for most of her life, was a long time resident of the Byemoor/ Endiang area and a recent resident of Heart Haven Lodge. Pudge Donald (Mohn) was the third of ten children born to James and Jean Donald. She was born at home on the family farm in Endiang on November 27, 1921. She grew up surrounded by brothers and sisters and the security of a loving family and solid community. She attended the Summerhill School and valued education. Pudge was also an avid baseball player and sports fan. In 1944, she married Ben Mohn of Endiang and had four children: Don (Ivy) Mohn of Endiang, Chris (Vicki) Mohn of Strathmore, Wayne (Susan) Mohn of Botha and Linda (Russ) Kobi of Byemoor. Pudge was a hard worker and could often be seen out in the garden, tending to the chickens, knitting a sweater or even unloading hay. She was content with a simple life on the farm and it was enough for her to know that her family was happy and healthy. Pudge worked along side her husband, Ben, to ensure the success of the family farm and Ben often called her his "Best Helper". In later years, Ben and Pudge owned and operated a UFA bulk fuel station in Byemoor. Pudge was a skilled bookkeeper and maintained detailed records for both the business and the farm. Pudge loved to play the guitar and sing and often performed at community events. Her neighbors, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always have fond memories of Pudge playing the guitar, singing, whistling and sometimes even yodeling. Pudge was a positive member of the community and a good neighbor. She belonged to the United Church, was an active supporter of 4-H and did her share of cooking and baking to contribute to community events. In her later years her passion became NHL hockey and she passed many hours watching the various games as she knitted gifts for her friends and family. Pudge was a wonderful and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for the love and care she provided to her family. She will be deeply missed and most certainly never forgotten. Pudge is predeceased by her husband, Ben, her parents, her sister, Grace and brothers: Rod, Herb, Wilf, and Doug. She is survived by her four children, 10 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Eddie (Hilda) Donald, Clifford Donald; two sisters, Mary Langston and Jeanette (Ken) Hayes; as well as many nieces, nephews and numerous friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held at the Endiang Community Hall with Rev. Lyn Workman officiating. Linda Kobi gave a tribute. Beatrice was laid to rest at the Endiang Cemetery beside her husband, Ben, with Lonny Mohn, Dallas Mohn, Robert Stanger, Brian Prehn, Erin Prehn for Kent Kobi, and David Lario serving as Pallbearers. Family and friends gather in the Endiang Community Hall for a time of sharing and a luncheon prepared by the community members. As an expression of sympathy, if so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Endiang Cemetery Fund or to the Diabetic Association.
