Thomson

Audrey Ann Thomson was born October 25, 1939 at Galahad, Alberta. She passed peacefully away August 22, 2009 at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre after a short but painful battle with Cancer. Audrey was the youngest child of Anton and Ida Thalman. She grew up on the family farm near Galahad and in the Alliance area with her brother Robert and sisters Delores and Doreen. She attended school in Galahad, Alliance and Merna. In 1961 she married Donald Thomson and moved across the river to Halkirk. Audrey and Don had three children Donna, Murray and Glenn. The children grew up surrounded by her love, support, strength and humour.

After Glenn went to school, Audrey took a job as the caretaker of the Halkirk School. For 15 years she kept the school sparkling clean and she did her job with pride and an iron fist. She had many wonderful memories of her co workers and the students. In 1990 Don passed away, Audrey stayed in the community surrounded by friendship and family. She retired from the school in 1995 and then she and her sisters took a trip to Switzerland. She spent the remaining years visiting children and grandchildren and enjoying her cherished friends and community. Audrey touched everyone with her love, kindness and wonderful sense of humour.

She was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Ida, her husband, Don, her mother and father-in-law, George and Grace Thomson; brothers-in-law, Alvin Buchholz and Wesley Wetter and sister-in-law, Ruby Moro. Audrey will be forever missed by her children: Donna (Dwayne) Matier, Murray, Glenn (Mary); grandchildren, Tyler (Natalie), Justin, Amanda, Carson, Kimberly and Dion; two great grandsons, Preston and Matthew; sisters, Delores Buchholz, Doreen (Herbert) Buchholz; brother, Robert (Minnie) Moro; sisters-in-law, Elaine (Vernon) King, Heather Wetter; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many cherished friends. A memorial service was held at the Halkirk Hall on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Culham officiating. Pianist Cathy Schaffner played for the congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art," "Abide With Me," "Old Rugged Cross;" great niece Rachel Felzein sang "Amazing Grace." Grandson Justin Matier presented the Family Memories. Honorary Pallbearers were Dorothy and Stan Anderson, Ken Anderson, Virginia and Doug Duke, Bonnie and Keith Douglas, Judy and John DeMos, Dora Morasch, Irene Schilling and Katie Schultz. Audrey will be laid to rest with her husband at the Halkirk Cemetery at a later date.
