HARBISON - Audrey Louise passed away on Jan. 5, 2009 at the age of 93 years. Audrey was born to Jack and Jessie Ferguson on Jan. 3, 1916 on their homestead east of Botha, AB. Audrey attended school in Botha, AB and Stettler, AB, completed her teachers training at Normal School in Calgary, AB, and received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta in 1968. She taught three years at Manthano, three years in Botha, and one year in Lacombe, AB before she married Joseph Harbison on Dec. 2, 1942. They resided on the Harbison homestead southeast of Botha until Joe passed away in 1956. Audrey and their three children, Pat, Barbara and Don moved to Stettler where she dedicated her life to raising her children and her teaching career. In 1977 she retired from teaching after 22 years. She had many wonderful trips within Canada and around the world with her friends as well as visiting Barb and family in Kenya (1972) and Dubai (2000) and numerous trips to Don and Leslie’s home in Phoenix, AZ. Her days were filled with many interests and volunteer activities including UCW, music festival, concerts, Senior Centre, Rotary lunches and coffee and card games at the condo. Walking was a daily activity no matter what the weather. She will be deeply missed by her children Barbara (Larry) and Don (Leslie); granddaughters Krista (Casey) and Teresa (Dennis); brother-in-law Rex Shuckburgh; sisters-in-law Betty (Lloyd) Hart and Jean Chaffee; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Audrey was predeceased by her husband Joe in 1956, son Pat in 1967 and sister June in 1993. A memorial service was held on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009 at the Stettler United Church at 2 p.m. Donations in Audrey’s memory may be made to the Stettler United Church, Botha Woodland Cemetery, or a charity of choice.
