Arthur (Art) Canton Wasdal
1922 - 2017
Art passed away peacefully at Heritage House in Stettler, Alberta on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the age of 94 years.
Art was born November 9, 1922 in Craigmyle, Alberta.
Art's journey through life was both lengthy (almost 95 years) and very rewarding. He enjoyed a full life, and was blessed with a large caring family and so many wonderful friends and neighbors.
On September 3, 1949 Art married the love of his life Dorothy (Dot) Edith Green of Byemoor, at the Big Valley United Church. They would become lifelong partners, raising their family and farming three miles west of Byemoor for the next 68 years.
Art and Dot really loved being part of the Byemoor community. There were so many great neighbors and friends helping each other with all kinds of projects such as the arenas, the curling rink, the ball diamonds, and the Seniors center.
He is survived by two sisters Thelma Keast and May Knowles and sister-in-law Vanita Mathers.
Art is lovingly remembered by his wife Dorothy (Dot) Wasdal; their sons: Stan (Beate) Wasdal of Calgary; Jim (Maureen) Wasdal of Endiang; Murray (Kim) Wasdal of Byemoor; Ray (Leslie) Wasdal of Red Deer; and daughter Wendy (Lyle) Bignell of Stettler. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Tim (Daina) Wasdal and their daughters Maddison and Marlee; Tara (Chad) Permann and their son Addison; Mandy (Matt) Nelson; Dustin Wasdal; Jaymie (Travis) Clouston and their sons Will, Jack and daughter Freya; Jordan (Kyle) Wasdal; Janelle (Denver) Silbernagel; Darby (Josh) Meyer; Haley Wasdal; Brett Bignell; Carly Bignell; and Drew Bignell.
Art was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Clara Wasdal, his sister Eleanor Aasured, brother Otto Wasdal and daughter Marilyn; also brothers-in-law Kelly Gallagher, Bill Keast and Ed Knowles.
A celebration of Art's life was held at the Byemoor Community Hall on Friday, October 20, 2017. The Wasdal family would like to thank their many friends and neighbors for all of their support.
