JOHNSON - Annie Johnson, formerly of Byemoor, AB and more recently Alix, AB; passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at Heritage House in the Stettler Health Care Centre, where she has called home for the past three years. Annie lived 99 years 10 months and 9 days. Annie and her twin sister Alice were born Oct. 13, 1908 at Premnay, Scotland to James and Alice Wilson, the first of 10 children. The Wilson family moved from Aberdeen, Scotland to Canada in 1924, settling in the Picture Butte area. Annie at age 15 began working at various large farms, cooking and house cleaning. It was on one of these farms at Nobleford where she met her future husband Hiram Joel Johnson of North Dakota, USA; a hired man there. September 1934 they were married in Calgary and started a life of many moves around Alberta as hired help for large farmers. Finally in 1945 they bought land in the Wolf Hill district, southwest of Byemoor, where they farmed for 19 years and raised their eight children. In 1963 with only the three youngest left at home, they sold and moved to a quarter at Alix, where they built a cozy small house that was home for the next 41 years; they did some farming and had more time for gardening and flower beds. After Hiram’s passing in January 1976, Annie remained on her acreage on her own for the next 28 years. Spare time was spent knitting, sewing, doing puzzles, TV shows; enjoying her flowers and her family was her life. In 2004 she moved to Heart Haven and then the past three years at Heritage House. A kind, quiet lady with a good sense of humour, she will be greatly missed. Annie is survived by her six daughters and two sons: Viola (Jack) Grams, Dorothy Annable, Marion (Ross) Annable, Stanley (Donna) Johnson, Ellen Wilton, Gladys (Stanley) Nattestad, Edwin (Gail) Johnson; Frances (Larry) Morgan; 23 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a brother Ed (Alison) Wilson, sisters Clara Anderson and Ella (Alex) Pollitt; sister-in- law Shirley Wilson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Annie was predeceased by her parents, husband, three sisters, three brothers; daughter-in-law Dona Johnson; two grandsons Kevin and Greg Wilton; granddaughter Connie Johnson; one great-grand daughter Samara Annable; two sons-in-law Mason Annable and Fred Wilton. Funeral service was held at Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home, on Aug. 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Susan Bowyer officiating. Lori Reule played the piano for the congregational hymns and for the family singers. Tributes were given by Carmen Macdonald, Brenda Nattestad and a poem was read by great-great- granddaughter Erin Grams. Interment was held at Lacombe Cemetery where Annie was laid to rest beside her husband Hiram Johnson. Pallbearers were Annie’s grandsons.
