KLATT

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alva Katarine Klatt on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the age of 87 years. Alva was born on February 15, 1923 at Bashaw, AB to Wilhiem and Clara Trefz. She went to Jarvis Bay School and every Saturday attended German school at the Lutheran Zion Church in Bashaw. Alva was confirmed in the same church. John and Alva were married on November 26, 1942. They lived with Alva's parents for a month as John and Robert Trefz went to work at a sawmill. John and Alva then went farming and eventually settled on John's dad's farm.

They were blessed with eight children; Sylvia, Mervin, Conrad, twins Robert and Marie, Linda and Carla. They suffered hardships as Sylvia passed away at 3 months of age with whooping cough. Robert was stillborn and Marie lived thirteen days. Alva did cleaning at St. Joseph's Hospital, Galahad, Alberta for many years. She was always interested in nursing and got her LPN license in 1970. The farm was sold in 1973 and they moved to Botha, Alberta where they resided until June 2006 and then moved into Paragon Place in Stettler, Alberta. Alva's grandchildren and great grandchildren added much pleasure to her life. While on the farm she was a member of the Paintearth Sewing Club, enjoyed camping for many years with family, bingo, square dancing and in later years floor curling. In April due to failing health, Alva went into Long Term Care in Stettler which is better known as "God's waiting room" where Alva passed away. Predeceased by her parents Wilhiem and Clara Trefz; sister Freda McLatchy; brothers Vern and Louis Trefz and daughter in law Leah Klatt Alva leaves to lovingly remember her, husband John and children: Mervin (Ellen) Klatt, Conrad (Sheila) Klatt, Linda (Wayne) Rossing, Gordon (Brenda) Klatt, Carla (Morgan) Grams; grandchildren: Shane (Jody) Klatt, Cody (Sharon) Klatt, Jason (Tammy) Rossing, Corwyn (Kelsey) Rossing, Trevor (Myste) Klatt, Tracey (Kim) Klatt, Tarah (Trevor) Knodel, Chad (Jill) Grams, Kyle Grams; and 17 great grandchildren; sister Mary Stenerson; brothers Robert (Esther) Trefz, Ed (Eileen) Trefz; sisters in law Dot Trefz, Irene (Howard) Schaufele; many nieces, nephews and friends.

We lost a mother with a heart of gold! How much we will miss her can never be told. She shared our troubles and helped us along. If we follow in her footsteps we will never go wrong.

Funeral services were held in the Heartland Chapel of the Stettler Funeral Home on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ross Helgeton officiating. Evelyn Strandquist played the organ for the hymns and led the congregation in song. Bill Reister gave a loving tribute in Alva's memory. A luncheon in the Botha Community Hall followed served by the Botha U.C.W. Alva was laid to rest in Omega Cemetery, Gadsby, Alberta.
