Wintry road conditions wreaked havoc on the QE2 over the weekend.
On Saturday a semi tractor hauling lumber rolled at about 8:30 a.m. ending up blocking the northbound lanes. Cleanup of the rollover took several hours.
Later, just before 11 a.m., a multi-vehicle collision in the same portion of the highway caused further issues in the southbound lanes. The severity of injuries was not known at press time.
Approximately 30-50 vehicles were in the ditch at this time due to the road conditions, state Ponoka RCMP.
Unofficial reports indicate there has been another collision involving motorists waiting for the traffic to clear.
Then on the Sunday there were further issues with vehicles in the ditch and super B tanker blocking highway lanes. Blackfalds RCMP at the time recommended motorists use other routes as the southbound lanes from Balckfalds to Gasoline Alley were at a standstill.
