“Our school colours, green and gold, remind us of our school spirit walking down the halls, belonging to a community we will never forget,” said Robyn Yaremcio, Wm. E. Hay Class of 2018 class valedictorian.
Stettler’s high school held its graduation ceremonies for 120 grads in a packed school gym May 26.
Taylor Roller, in her invocation, recognized the support of all teachers, coaches and guardians who helped them reach graduation day.
“May we hold today as we reflect on the best parts of growing up.”
Vice-principal Warren Aspenes and student union president Isaac Nibourg were the master of ceremonies.
“If you believe you can truly change the world you can accomplish it because the way you think is very important,” said Nibourg.
“Greatness does not happen by accident,” he added. “It’s a conscious effort to strive to be that person you know you can be. There may be times you stumble and fall and you may want to stay down because it’s too much to handle, but do not fear, get up, dust yourself off and keep trying. The world is waiting for you.”
Principal Norbert Baharally had five pieces of advice for the youth.
“First, you don’t have to go to post secondary right away. If the time is right to go you will know. Don’t go just for the sake of going.
“Second, if you do go to a post secondary institution right away it’s OK not to know your major.
“Third, all jobs are worth doing well, even the not-so-important ones. Do it well and take pride in it. Show up when you’re supposed to show up on time and do your work. If you do you will be successful.
“Fourth, don’t lose touch with friends and family.
“Fifth ask lots of questions along the way. There’s no such thing as a dumb question. If you never ask you will never know.”
Jessi Robinson, accompanied by Barry Hill, sang, “Wind Beneath My Wings.”
Emily Brown, Adam Johnston and Katelyn Imbery presented the class history. Kayla Myshaniuk gave the tribute to the parents and Dwight and Laurie Myshaniuk gave the reply.
The grand march was directed by Janine Klevgaard and Warren Aspenes.
Valedictorian Robyn Yaremcio, said, “We made it this far and we will continue chasing our own pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.”
