Watson violates bail, back in jail

Larry Watson, one of the two remaining men charged in the February methamphetamine lab bust north of Stettler, is back in jail.

Larry Watson, one of the two remaining men charged in the February methamphetamine lab bust north of Stettler, is back in jail after being found in breach of his bail conditions.

This is the second time Watson has breached his release conditions. The first time Watson was released on bail, he was under conditions to remain on his property and not be found in locations that sell or serve alcohol. He was found in a Stettler liquor store by an off-duty RCMP member and was subsequently arrested.

The second time Watson was released, he was under conditions to reside at a property in Big Valley, and was under a 24-hour-a-day curfew, with permission to leave the property only for medical or legal matters. However, police received a tip that Watson was seen driving in Stettler and attended the residence at which he was supposed to reside in Big Valley and performed a curfew check, and discovered Watson was absent, according to RCMP cpl. Cameron Russell.

Watson arrived during the check and was arrested, and will appear in court later this month.

Canada Day ruckus

The Canada Day long-weekend was fairly uneventful, with local RCMP members out in force patrolling community roads. Police were called out to Ol’MacDonald Campground north of Erskine on Canada Day and arrested a 40-year-old Edmonton man who was inebriated and causing a disturbance at the campsite by yelling profanities.

No charges were laid, and the man was released the next day. His fellow campers were evicted.

Police didn’t nab anyone for drunk driving, but one driver, a 22-year-old Red Deer man, had his licence suspended and his vehicle suspended for seven days after he was stopped by police. The driver had a graduated licence that had a zero-tolerance for alcohol, and while the man was not criminally impaired, he had been drinking. The suspension lasts 30 days.

Tractor stolen

A 2015 John Deere 1025R tractor was stolen from Servus, the local John Deere dealer, over the weekend, police report. The green utility tractor, which had a front end loader, was stolen from the yard.
