Late Friday night or early Saturday morning, vandals spray-painted graffiti inside the Stettler Skateboard Park.

The painting was noted early Saturday morning by RCMP investigators driving past the park.

The outdoor-arena park is used by young and old skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX riders from the area — and the mischief appears to be a direct attack on the users of the facility.

On Monday morning, Stettler town maintenance workers began removing the fresh paint from the park area, in an effort to prevent further acts of vandalism.

Everyone is reminded that spraying graffiti is not a victimless crime, as business owners and residents must incur the cost of removing the offending paintwork.

It’s believed that the offenders threw the empty spray-paint cans into the nearby creek.

Their criminal activity comes just as the town is conducting major fundraising to build a new park.

The RCMP asks the public for assistance in solving the skateboard park crime. Anyone with information is asked to call the local detachment at 403-742-3381 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
