A pair of Clearview School District trustees will not be returning after they confirmed Aug. 31 they will not be running in the upcoming civic election.
During a break at their regular board meeting, trustees notified the Stettler Independent on their plans for the upcoming Oct. 28 civic election.
Board chair Cheri Neitz, Ward 1, stated she will not run for the school board this fall. She added that she’s actually planning on making to run for a seat on county council.
Ward 2 incumbent Yvette Cassidy stated she plans to run again, but would consider standing aside if another candidate stepped forward.
Deputy chair and Ward 3 incumbent Dave Goodwin stated he will run for re-election.
Ward 4 incumbent John Schofer stated he plans to run for re-election in October.
Karen Holloway, incumbent for Ward 5, said she will not run for re-election next month.
Ken Checkel, incumbent for Ward 6, stated he plans to run again in the upcoming election.
Coincidentally, earlier in the meeting trustees discussed an agenda item labeled as “long service awards,” sponsored by the Alberta School Boards Association, which requires nominations for people who’ve served the division over a long period of time.
During discussion, it was noted that trustee Schofer has been serving since 1998, going on 20 years. When it was mentioned that Schofer be nominated for an award, he was humble.
Schofer said he’s not overly worried about awards. He said, as a school board trustee, he doesn’t serve in order to get awards.
The municipal election will be held Monday, Oct. 16.
