Stettler homeowners wishing to make their homes more energy efficient now have a new avenue to do so through a new program being offered by the municipality.

Beginning March 26, the Town of Stettler launched the Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP), which is being managed in partnership with Alberta Municipalities.

The program allows homeowners to borrow money to make home improvements which make the home more energy-efficient then pay it back through the municipal tax bill.

A stated goal of the CEIP is “to empower residents to renovate their property in ways that will increase sustainability while decreasing utility payments,” according to a media release announcing the program.

Projects eligible for the program include furnace replacements, adding insulation, window replacement, solar systems, and others.

“We are pleased to partner with Alberta Municipalities to offer this awesome program, making sustainable and green renovations affordable in our community,” said Mayor Sean Nolls.

“We hope to see a number of residents take advantage of this financing tool, and as many local contractors as possible sign up to become involved in this opportunity.”

Financing for any work done and loans received will be tied to the property and transferred to a new homeowner if the property is sold.

Currently, the municipality is offering an interest rate of 5.6 per cent for financing which can be paid over multiple years on a homeowners taxes.

To utilize the program, homeowners must use qualified contractors who are registered through Alberta Municipalities.
