There was a flurry of activity at the West Stettler ball diamond as fire trucks lined the street on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 11.

Although it was cold and raining, the members of Gear Up Foundation – a non-profit organization that will be providing sports equipment to kids in the community – remained undeterred as they faced slo-pitch opponents, Stettler Regional Fire and Rescue and Town of Stettler employees.

"The objective of the game was to bring awareness," said Rena Hogg, communications director of the organization. "It was a fun way to introduce employees of the town office and members of the Stettler fire department to Gear Up Kids Foundation."

Hogg said that in doing so they were hoping that even more people in the community and surrounding area will be informed about the organization.

"The game was a lot of fun with our team consisting of eight board members and three member spouses," said Hogg.

Organization President Len Hoac added, "We look forward to working with more members in the community of Stettler and the surrounding area to bring even more awareness to our program and we hope to help many more kids in need."

The organization is fairly new and was founded in the Town of Stettler, providing new and refurbished sports equipment to kids in need at no cost.

"At our Gear Up Kids centre we have just about every type of sporting equipment you can imagine," added Hogg. "Ranging from hockey, baseball, football, soccer, golf to figure skating, lacrosse, bikes, shooters and roller blades."

On Saturday, Sept. 24 Gear Up Kids Foundation alongwith local businesses will participate in a kids' carnival and charity barbecue from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
