Three more Stetter-area residents issued Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medals

Even more Stettler resident’s have received Queen’s Platinum Jubilee award.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Awards were introduced by the Alberta government int 2022 to mark 70 years of Queen Elizabeth on the throne.

Communities across the province were given a certain number of the medals to distribute, with a total of 7,000 being dispersed across the province.

According to a release issued with the medals, the awards are presented to “deserving Albertans” as a “tangible way to publicly acknowledge the work and dedication” of those who “are actively contributing to our province and country and to pay tribute to the examples set by Her Late Majesty throughout her lifetime.”

On Feb. 2, during the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies (AAAS) annual convention in Edmonton, Stettler Agricultural Society’s Marj Savage was honoured with a Jubilee medal for her many years of service in the Stettler area.

A couple of days later, Elpha Senft and Joanne Lee, both long-time Stettler Imerial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE) members, were presented awards from the IODE president in a ceremony held in Olds, Alta., on Feb. 4 for “demonstrating exceptional qualities and outstanding service to the province in the field of volunteerism.”

These awards are in addition to the five awards issued by the Stettler Information and Referral Centre on behalf of the province in December.
