September is Alberta Culture Days and the Stettler Public Library and the Stettler Friends of the Library Society are very excited to be part of this wonderful month of events that will be taking place throughout the entire town.

Here is just a small sample of some of the events that are being planned to celebrate Alberta Culture Days thanks to the funding support of the Government of Alberta.

Spaces will be limited for certain sessions to allow for social distancing, so register by calling the library at 403-742-2292.

Beading is a very important art form in the Indigenous culture and the Stettler Public Library is very excited to have Janine Peigan join us on Saturday, Sept. 5th at 1 p..m at the Stettler Recreation Centre. Janine will discuss her beading journey and show us how it is done.

This workshop is for ages 10 and up and space is limited to 12 participants. Call the library to register, there is no cost to attend.

Would you rather try sculpting?

Jasper Tate will be your instructor for our Introduction to Sculpting session on Wednesday, Sept. 16th at 6:30 p.m. All you need is your imagination and hands to bring your creation to life. This workshop is open to ages eight and up and again spots are limited. Pre-register by calling the library, there is no cost to attend.

Maybe comics are more up your alley.

Chance Clark will be sharing his comic art expertise on Saturday, Sept. 19th at 1 p.m. Learn how to draw comic book style! Anyone aged 10+ is welcome to attend. Please pre-register by calling the library at 403-742-2292 because space is limited and I don’t want you to miss out on any of the wonderful Alberta Culture Days events.

The Stettler Friends of the Library is pleased to bring you two Historic Ghost Walks on Friday, Sept. 18th and Saturday, Sept. 19th at 8 pm. Learn about the history (including the dark side) of the community that you call home, as you walk along the streets of Stettler. This event is open to all ages but spaces are limited. (Can you see the common theme?) To celebrate Alberta Culture Days, September’s Historic Ghost Walks are free. Call 403-742-2292 to register.

If the written word is your preferred medium, the Stettler Public Library is pleased to have Fran Kimmel teach you the Art of Persuasion for Creative Writers on Saturday, Sept. 26th from 10 am to 3 p.m.

Fran’s writing credentials include being the writer-in-residence at the Parkland Regional Library and is the author of two published books The Shore Girl and No Good Asking.

This workshop is free of charge but there are only 12 spaces; call the Library to book your spot. All you need is a pen and paper, a favourite novel or memoir, a packed lunch, and your enthusiasm.

Our regular library programs are starting to return for the fall. If you have any questions about our programming or would like to register for an event, call us at 403-742-2292.

Something Cool After School is returning on Thursdays at 4 p.m.

We are wanting to take advantage of the wonderful weather that we have been having so it will take place at the picnic table by the Library’s garden! Call 403-742-2292 to register!

Read and Rhyme is taking place in the great outdoors for the months of August and September. Littles (ages 0-5) with their big people are invited for songs, stories, and rhymes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 3 p.m.

Limited spots are available so call the library to register.

Did you know that meditation can help your anxiety? Alicia Tate from AliciaTateYoga.com is back on Tuesday, Sept. 15th at 7 p.m. for Tuesday Meditation.

She will be leading a meditation circle and teaching you ways in which you can bring meditation into your daily life.

Don’t forget that Summer Classics Series is back on Monday, Aug. 31st at 7 p.m. at the Jewel Theatre! Come and enjoy who some call the ultimate James Bond, Sir Sean Connery, in the 1964 Bond classic Goldfinger.

James Bond (Sir Sean Connery) is back and his next mission takes him to Fort Knox, where Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe) and his henchman are planning to raid Fort Knox and obliterate the world economy.

To save the world once again, Bond will need to become friends with Goldfinger, dodge killer hats, and avoid Goldfinger’s personal pilot, the sexy Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman).

She might not have feelings for Bond, but will 007 help her change her mind?

Admission is free, however, donations are gratefully appreciated. Come and support the Stettler Public Library, watch a great movie, and enjoy the best popcorn in the world at the Jewel Theatre! I think that is a win, win and win!

If you are looking for non-medical face masks, the Stettler Public Library is the place to go. The Alberta Government has sent free face masks to be distributed through your local library. Come in, pick up a movie or get your library membership (which is free), and pick up a package of masks before you leave.
