Don and Elsie Yates were hosts to their daughter Sharla’s wedding on Saturday, September 2 at the Westwoods Community Centre. The bird sanctuary pond was a pretty backdrop for the ceremony after the bride, Sharla Yates arrived in a horse drawn carriage, accompanied by her father Don Yates and two little flower girls. Her mother, Elsie joined them as they welcomed their new son-in-law Peter Andrushuk. Also present were Sharla’s brother Glen and wife Alma and their family, Sergio and Sofia from Utah, as well as family from Chilliwack, Canmore, Calgary and Regina. A large number of Peter’s family and friends attended from Manitoba. Sharla and Peter will be living in Edmonton.

Fred and Velvet Entwisle were camping (they say glamping) at Perlican Point last weekend when, Saturday night, they were hit with a storm with winds clocked at 90km per hour, forcing evacuation of two summer villages and caused a four vehicle collision on highway 53. Fred and Velvet were safe where they were but watched the calcium chloride move across the waters. Hard to see and hard to breath. RCMP asked nearby residence and visitors at Rochan Sands and White Sands and campers near Buffalo Lake to leave the lake and seek shelter. Rochan Sands Community hall was flooded with people seeking shelter. Luckily no serious injuries occurred. Fred and Velvet noted many leaves and branches on the road Sunday as they left the camp.

Bill and Joyce Hansel drove to Cadogan Sunday, September 3 and joined family at the Cabin by the Lake to help daughter Mary Lou Botting celebrate her birthday and Stan and MaryLou celebrate their thirty seventh wedding anniversary which were both on Wednesday, There were eighteen friends and family gathered at the lake to wish them well.

Donna McKay, Lexxi and James Stenberg took the Alberta Prairie Train ride to Big Valley on Saturday, September 2. The only time one can enjoy getting robbed, witness a shoot out and laugh about it! Not to mention the yummy meal at the end of the first half of the trip before reluctantly heading back to Stettler.

Happy tenth anniversary to James and Kerri Pothier on September 1 as well as Ray and Rene Blackmore’s 38th anniversary. Yes, it’s been thirty eight years since Christy Heer was flower girl for Ray and Rene and started school two days later! Best wishes to all.

Mareena Davits, along with Shandele (Van Straten) Battle and Jennifer Johnson-Nelson all attended the Guns and Roses Concert in Edmonton last weekend, where they revisited their teen years, laughed and took lots of pictures.

We will be experiencing more smoke from the southwest now with fires in the Waterton, Alberta area. There is a total fire ban on for our area and all of Stettler County, please be careful, remember such things as barbeques and fireworks can cause fires too.
