Castor’s 46th annual rodeo returns for some summer fun.

The rodeo will take place at 5 p.m. on June 24, east of town at the rodeo grounds and feature events such as bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding, hide ride, and wild pony racing. There will also be a footrace, with a $100 prize for the winner.

The footrace is open to anyone.

Also on site, the rodeo will feature food trucks from Prairie Girl and Mic’s Concessions. A beer garden will be available for rodeo visitors and the Daring Divas will be showcasing their trick riding skills.

There will be free camping all weekend on the rodeo grounds.

Rodeo committee secretary Heidi Downey was asked why the rodeo has not been moved back up to a two-day event. She said that a one-day event allowed them to do everything they wanted to do without overworking their volunteers. She continued that in years past having a second day has not been beneficial to the overall event.

Downey said that she hopes that the rising cost of things like gas will not prevent someone from coming out to the rodeo.

“We’d love to have the stands full,” said Downey.

At this time there is no official price for entry into the rodeo. Downey has said that tickets will be available at the entrance on the day of the rodeo.

The Castor rodeo is looking for volunteers to help make the Castor Rodeo a success. Those interested should contact Heide Downey at 403- 740 6570.
