There really is nothing like being part of a community that you can be proud of - where you can really count on the businesses, organizations and services that work hard to serve the public each and every day.

We at the Stettler Independent are excited about giving our readers the opportunity to show their support for local businesses, eateries, organizations and services in an exciting new way - the ‘Best of Stettler Readers’ Choice Awards 2019’.

Voting is about to begin with a special supplement outlining who has landed the top spots set to be published Oct. 24th.

There are plenty of categories to check out from Favourite Place for a First Date, Favourite Summer Event and Best Burger to Best Hair Salon/Barber, Best Flower Shop and Best Hotel/Motel among loads of others.

Other categories run the gamut from Best Bar, Favourite Place for Photos and Best Donut/Danish to Best Family Dining and Best Happy Hour Spot.

The closing date for the contest is Sept. 21st.

We all know that Stettler is a thriving community - all you have to do is head downtown to see the tremendous variety of services, organizations, restaurants and businesses that are available for us all to enjoy.

And that’s exactly where the Best of Stettler comes in - this is a unique chance to not only show your support for these venues and services that enrich our community, but to also be eligible for a $300 gift card for Sobeys.

Ever since I started with the Stettler Independent back in April, I have been continually amazed at the spirit of community that resonates amongst local organizations.

There is a warmth and friendliness to this town, and it’s those kinds of characteristics that, in turn, fuel a level of success across the business community and beyond.

That in itself benefits all of us - right down to, as mentioned, the businesses throughout the community and their responsiveness to what the needs are.

Not only that, but the level of sponsorship that exists amongst local businesses is terrific as well.

In the course of my writing, reporting and just getting to know local residents, it’s clear time and again that the level of support is strong and consistent.

There is always a need for local companies to lend a helping hand to any number of causes, and from what I’ve observed, Stettler businesses are typically very pleased to do so.

As mentioned earlier, the Best of Stettler does venture beyond just businesses. It’s also about recognizing the colourful and lighthearted sides of our community as well - ‘Favourite Place for a First Date’ for example will no doubt be a popular category to vote in I would imagine.
