Longtime golfer Guy Chapman remembers Ted Connor as a well-respected community member, a very generous businessman, and a fine Rotarian.
Participating in the Ted Connor Memorial Rotary Golf Tournament for the second time, Chapman said, "This is the 5th annual tournament, though this is my second year. It has been a great annual event, and for a good cause."
On Wednesday, June 24, the Ted Connor Memorial Rotary Golf Tournament was held at the Pheasantback Golf Course, about 10 kilometres north of Stettler.
Registration began early ending at noon, with tee-off at one. A fee of $125, included golf, cart and a meal.
Although an annual Rotary Club of Stettler event, the funds raised are split; some of which goes to the Stettler Food Bank and rest to the club, said Vicki Leuck, member of the organizing committee.
Ted Connor was a Stettler businessman from 1965 until his retirement in 1990, and was a Rotarian from 1969 until his death in 2009.
"My father always had a firm belief in giving back to the community that he lived in and Rotary was his chosen method to do so," said Neil Connor, Ted Connor's son. "He volunteered at the food bank for many years up until his passing."
After Ted Connor's death, the Rotary Club of Stettler thought a Ted Connor Memorial Golf Tournament was the best way to honour his efforts and commitments and his love of golf.
The Stettler community and a long list of businesses have come together to make the event a success.
"A lot of the golfers also brought in prizes and giveaways," said Leuck. "The event would not have been possible without the Connor family, who have been a big part of it."
