As negative as social media can be, every so often it can be found supporting a good cause.

A local Stettler woman was scrolling her Instagram feed back in September when she came across a “Fab over 40” competition in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The North America-wide competition accepted women over 40 from all walks of life, with the goal of using their personal networks to get votes.

Starting in October, Amber Lee Campbell has hung through many rounds of cuts so far and currently sits at number 12 in the semi-finals.

Out of a starting field of thousands of women, the semi-finals are narrowed down to 14 groups of 14, with one person from each moving on to the finals on Dec. 8.

Up for grabs in the competition is $40,000 U.S. prize money, a spa-cation and a two-page photo-spread in New Beauty magazine. In total, around $100,000 in prizes are up for grabs.

However, the real winner is the National Breast Cancer Foundation. While anyone can head over to Campbell’s link and vote once a day, people can “buy” more votes with a donation to the foundation.

The donations work out to $1 a vote, and whether Campbell makes it into the finals will depend on how many votes she gets.

“It’s supporting a good cause,” said Campbell.

Campbell is a Stettler-area aesthetician, beauty educator, model and photographer who believes in sharing her gifts and inspiring others.

Voting for the semi-finals closes at 8 p.m. on Dec. 8.
