Stettler is well off pace to start the third month of the fifth annual Walk’nRoll challenge.
As of July 6, Stettler residents have logged 5,319 trips which is well above third place rival Rocky Mountain House, which is sitting at 1,739, but well behind first place leaders Wainwright, who are currently sitting at 7,780.
“Wainwright is doing a good job of getting their people to register,” said Grace Fix, one of the organizers of the challenge.
“They are getting the word out there.”
Registering trips for Stettler residents is easy, head over to www.stettler.net and click on the Waln’nRoll form under Areas to Explore, then fill out the form.
Fix notes that the main thing to remember about the Walk’n’Roll challenge is that it is not about exercise but about leaving the vehicle at home.
“It’s good for us, and good for the planet,” said Fix.
“Stettler is a very walkable town.”
In order to register trips, all one has to do is enter their name and town the trips are for. Distances are not tracked, and each leg of a trip, to and from a destination, counts as two different trips.
The Walk’n’Roll challenge runs from May 1 until Aug. 31, and the portal to register trips allows you to backdate all the way to the beginning of the challenge.
Stettler won the challenge for the first three years the event was run before losing by a scant 70 trips to Wainwright in 2021.
In 2019 Stettler recorded over 24,000 trips.
With just over seven weeks left of the challenge, Stettler and its residents have plenty of time to add the trips and take the lead.
