CHARGES LAID
On Jan. 21, a domestic violence investigation concluded with the arrest of a 43-year-old male who resides in the south east area of the County of Stettler. He was released with numerous conditions and will appear in Stettler Provincial Court on Jan. 27 to enter pleas to a charge of assault, one count of choking and six counts of uttering threats.
FRAUD
A Stettler resident was the victim of an Internet-related fraud. The resident reported that in January, a vehicle, advertised on the internet, was purchased. Money was paid to the seller using an electronic money transfer service called Western Union, but the vehicle was never delivered. This is a typical scam known to police that targets Canadians every day. Buyers beware.
THEFT
On Jan. 18, a garage in the 4800 block of 45 Street in Stettler was broken into. An orange Acklands Zipper welder was stolen.
Gas was stolen from a gas station along 47 Avenue in Stettler on Jan. 19 at 1:50 p.m. by a driver who filled up and drove off without paying. A blue or grey minivan was the vehicle responsible.
On Jan.19, a computer monitor was reported stolen from the Stettler Hospital. Missing is a 17-inch Dell monitor.
A stolen vehicle was discovered in a church parking lot in Stettler on Jan 22. The vehicle, a white Dodge Caravan, had been stolen in Edmonton in mid-December and was abandoned for about a week in the parking lot before police were notified.
