With the beginning of the new school year, the Stettler RCMP would like to remind motorists of the requirement to obey School Zone signs, the times those are in effect and the differences between those and playground zones.

School zones

In effect on school days only:

During the following hours 8 a.m. - 9:30am / 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. / 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

A municipality may change the hours of school zones, however, those alternate hours are required to be posted with the sign

Speed limit during hours of enforcement is 30 km/hr

Playground zones

In effect every day:

During the hours of 8:30 am - one hour after sunset

A municipality may establish ‘set hours’ for their playground zones, however, they must be posted with the sign.

The speed limit during hours of enforcement is 30 km/hr

Stettler RCMP detachment offers free cards outlining the differences of the two zones that can be kept with your vehicle as a reminder.
