A Stettler man was arrested and charged with drug trafficking after a traffic stop in Drumheller.

On April 28 at about 5:30 p.m., Drumheller RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a van. The license plate didn’t match and police quickly determined the license plate was stolen out of Three Hills. Further investigation revealed drugs inside the vehicle in the possession of the male driver and female passenger.

Richard Patrick Bixby, 40, of Stettler, and Nichole Raelene Hatt, 31, of Drumheller, were both charged with three counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (Methamphetamine, carfentanil, and LSD).

Bixby faces an additional charge of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and Hatt is also charged with possession of a prohibited device (brass knuckles) as well as failing to comply with her probation order.

Bixby and Hatt were held for a judicial interim release. A justice of the peace released Bixby on a $1,500 no cash recognizance and released Hatt on a $2,500 no cash recognizance. Both appear in Drumheller provincial court on May 11.
