Stettler Legion reopens with new executive

There are some big changes happening at the Stettler Legion.

Following the election of a new executive, plans are underway to reopen the Legion to its members including fan-favourite activities like shuffleboard and crib.

The new executive was elected on Sept. 8; Harry Magee comes in as the new president, Ray Cerniuk comes in as first vice president, Dan Bossert comes in as second vice president, Wayne Dewantz comes in as third vice president, Bonny Douglas comes in as treasurer and Dorotthy Reiter retaining her role as secretary.

“We’re hoping to get nine more people to serve on subcommittees,” said Reiter, in a recent interview.

The first day the Legion was reopened was Sept. 13 with ‘Coffee and Conversation’ running from 1-4 p.m.

Coffee and Conversation, an opportunity designed for social interaction between members and non-members alike, will run every Wednesday and is open to everyone.

Also returning beginning Sept. 16 was the Legion Meat Draw on Saturdays. The doors opened at 4 p.m. and the draws began at 5 p.m.

If anyone is interested in becoming a member, renting the facility or just looking for more information, get in touch with the Legion office. The Legion is open afternoons from 1-4 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

Legion membership is open to anyone in the community in good standing; membership is no longer restricted to veterans. Someone interested in joining needs to submit a membership fee and application for review by the membership, and if approved they can then become a member.

The Legion organizes the annual Remembrance Day service and the Poppy Campaign in the Stettler region.

For more information, call the Legion at 403-742-2404.
