Stettler Hike for Hospice Fundraiser took place May 7

A fundraiser for a local non-profit was back for another year on May 7.

The “Hike For Hospice” fundraiser, part of a national fundraiser, was held in Stettler in support of the hospice suite located at Points West Living in the southwest part of the community.

According to Chad Dalsin, a volunteer with the Stettler Hospice Society, the hospice service in the community is completely free to those who need it and is funded through fundraisers such as the hike.

The funds raised go towards consumable supplies, such as coffee for people staying there, for rent, and hospital-quality beds and equipment.

“The unit is supplied like an apartment,” said Dalsin.

“It’s in the northeast corner of Points West, with its own private door.”

Around 50 people registered for the Hike for Hospice. Registration cost $20 per adult, with participants raising funds through pledge forms.

Those registered had the option of participating in a one, three, or five-kilometre walk or run.

Afterwards, there was entertainment for children, yoga, and a barbecue held in West Stettler Park for participants.

“It was kind of like a free party,” said Dalsin.

In total, just under $9,000 was raised with the 2023 event, bringing the total to $23,000 in the last five years it has run.
