The Stettler Hospital and Care Centre will be closed from 5 p.m Aug. 29 until 8 a.m. on Aug. 30.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) made the announcement just before the closure on Aug. 29.

The stated reason for the closure is due to “an unexpected gap in coverage.”

“AHS is working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time. Nursing staff will remain on-site in the (emergency department) providing triage and assessments, and referrals for patients to alternate (emergency departments) in surrounding communities as needed,” wrote Heather Kipling, an AHS communications officer, in a media release.

According to the release, no other services at the site are impacted.

Patients having a medical emergency are asked to call 911 instead of going to the hospital so that Emergency Medical Services can transport patients requiring care to nearby facilities.

The release notes that calling Health Link at 811 is also an option for non-emergency situations.

“AHS is grateful for the support of staff and physicians who have helped minimize this temporary disruption as much as possible,” the release continued.

“Additionally , AHS appreciates the support surrounding the healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.”
