Stettler County orders clean-up of unsightly property

After receiving complaints about an unsightly property, Stettler County is forcing the owners of Botha Mercantile to clean it up.

During its regular meeting Aug. 8 council voted in favour of sending the owners an enforcement letter.

“We will start with a notice to clean up and if doesn’t happen then we threaten to go in and do it and put (costs) on their taxes,” said Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Yvette Cassidy, adding that the property is coming up for sale in December due to unpaid taxes. should deal with the issue now.

The bylaw department will deal with the unsightly property issue, although the county didn’t specify what is the unsightly issue. If the owners don’t clean up the property the county will clean it up and add the costs to the owner’s tax bill.

If the owners don’t their taxes the county will take possession of the property, sell it and recover costs, said CAO Cassidy.

Botha is a hamlet in Stettler County, about 13 km east of Stettler.
