Town Council had a light agenda for its Jan. 7 meeting.

The main topic of the evening was regarding land use bylaw 2184-25.  The property in question is at 4818-62 Street.  The area is zoned C2 for Commercial Highway District.  The application is being made by ABC Daycare, and would allow a proposed daycare facility to be designated as discretionary use for the property.

The applicant is proposing to convert the south half of the building into a daycare facility.  This would also include a fenced area in the parking lot on the property for outdoor play.  If the applicant were to proceed with their plans, they would still have to meet the requirements of bylaw 2060-15 and the Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Act.

The first reading was held with a motion from Coun. Travis Randell, which was carried by council.  The next reading will take place once the town has properly advertised the propped bylaw and has allowed the required amount of time for the public to address concerns or support for the changes.

Council also accepted a letter from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police regarding concerns expressed during the Alberta Municipalities Convention in Red Deer last year.  The letter addressed concerns raised during the conversation which included the current funding model.  The issue of the current detachment building was also discussed.  The letter was accepted with a motion from Coun. Wayne Smith.
Council then adjourned the public portion of the meeting to begin the in-camera session.

Councillors then presented their meeting reports, which included tours with potential doctors considering Stettler and a Christmas Party hosted by the local Filipino community.
