More pathways are being considered for the Town of Stettler and to enhance the community and council invites suggestions from residents.
People in the community are welcome to share their ideas at a public discussion session on March 23 at 7 p.m. at Stettler Recreation Centre conference room.
“We invite anyone enjoying Stettler’s pathway system to come and join us at this public session,” said Mayor Dick Richards.
“Options will be presented and your ideas will be accepted.”
“The town is looking for comments from the community to assist in the next steps of pathway planning in our town,” added Lee Penner, director of parks and leisure services.
Steps to initiate a pathway development master plan were discussed by council during a recent meeting of the whole committee.
Council also plans to present a draft pathways master plan during the Stettler Trade Show from April 9 to 11 and invite more comments.
Plans to expand were initiated with a suggestion to enhance paths on the Emmerson connection between 51 and 52 avenues the junction of 47 Avenue in east Stettler by Main Street and Stettler hospital and golf course and along Highway 12 between 57 and 60 streets,
“The objective of our pathway development master plan is consistent with our mission statement that we aspire to provide a high quality of life for our residents and visitors, said Penner.
“Our annual pathway program to date has been embraced by our residents as something they want and continue to support and expect.”
To cut local costs, the town will continue to seek provincial funding form the Community Facilities Enhancement Program (CFEP) and Community Initiatives Program (CIP).
Town manager Rob Stoutenberg told council that with limited eligible provincial funding programs for pathways, council is faced with a financial challenge in order to accomplish and eventually complete an integrated pathway/sidewalk construction program on a timely yet affordable basis.
