The Stettler Regional Board of Trade (BOT) will be hosting a spring hiring fair later on in April.
Usually held a couple of times a year, one in spring and one in fall, the hiring fairs are an opportunity for job seekers and employers to come together and potentially fill needs.
“We’ve sent letters to the usual suspects,” said BOT executive director, Byron Geddes.
“We’ve had above average response so far.”
According to Geddes, the fairs normally draw around 18-20 employers from around the community; based on reception so far, Geddes says he wouldn’t be surprised if the April fair surpasses that.
Geddes notes that even one oil and gas company, Trican Well Services which has a base in Red Deer, has committed to the April fair to “tap a resource” of employees in the smaller rural communities.
“The bigger companies are going to be present,” said Geddes, noting that it could be a good opportunity for workers “to get back into the oil patch.”
The employment fair is open to any Stettler-area employer who wants to attend at no charge.
“It will be well worth your time to come to something like (this),” said Geddes.
The fair will be held at the Stettler Recreation Centre upstairs in the Hub from 7-8:30 p.m. on April 25, and job seekers should bring their resumes.
