Stettler area offender rearrested 10 days after last arrest

According to members of the Stettler RCMP, some people just don’t learn.

Officers from the Stettler RCMP detachment were patrolling the community around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 when they observed Larry Watson, 70, leave a business and climb behind the wheel of a nearby vehicle.

Watson had been arrested for driving without a licence, along with some outstanding warrants just 10 days prior on Aug. 12.

Recognizing Watson, and being aware that Watson’s licence was suspended and therefore he was not allowed to operate a motor vehicle, the officer attempted to pull him over. Instead of complying, Watson fled at high speed.

For safety reasons, the officers did not pursue but continued to investigate via other avenues. The vehicle Watson was driving was subsequently located and after further investigation Watson was tracked to a Big Valley, Alta, residence where officers made the arrest.

Watson was charged with: operation of a motor vehicle while unauthorized, flight from a police officer, failure to comply with a release order condition, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Following a release hearing, Watson was remanded into custody and transported to the remand centre until his Sept. 8, Stettler Provincial Court date for these as well as his previous matters.

“The Stettler RCMP will continue to focus efforts to bring these individuals before the courts in response to their criminal activities and the resulting negative influences that can affect our communities,” said S/Sgt. Bruce Holliday, Stettler RCMP detachment commander.

Anyone with information related to these, or other, criminal matters are asked to contact the Stettler RCMP complaint line at 403-742-3381.
