St. George’s Anglican Church in Stettler held a special ceremony on Jan. 25.

A first in just over three decades, the church welcomed around 75 local parishioners and visitors from the main denomination in Calgary to celebrate the ordination of one of their own to priesthood; Deacon Brent Schulze.

Schulze is the son of former St. George’s reverend, Jack Schulze, who was the last person to be ordained in the church in the early 1990s. Jack was ordained as a Deacon himself in the church before being ordained as a priest in a Calgary ceremony.

Guests ranged in age from the very young to very old; and officiants included Archbishop Greg Kerr-Wilson and the current St. George’s reverend, David Holmes.

Holmes has announced his intention to retire later this spring, and the newly ordained Schulze will be taking his place at the Parish.
